RESEARCH ON THE FACTORS AFFECTING THE CONTACT STRENGTH OF PLASTIC GEARS USING THE TAGUCHI METHODAbstract
Plastic gears are increasingly used in power transmission systems due to their advantages of light weight, low noise, and corrosion resistance. However, contact strength remains a major challenge, especially under high-load or high-speed conditions. This study uses the Taguchi method to identify and evaluate the influence of geometric and operational parameters on the contact strength of plastic gears. The variables investigated include module, number of teeth, face width, transmission ratio, pressure angle, and so on. An L27 orthogonal array is employed to establish the experimental combinations, and contact strength is determined through simulation. Analysis of Means (ANOM) reveals the level of influence of each factor. Signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio analysis is then used to determine the optimal parameter set for enhancing contact strength. The results of this research provide a foundation for the efficient design of high-load plastic gear transmissions
