Title

CALCULATION OF REGENERATIVE BRAKING FOR ELECTRIC CAR

Abstract

Electric vehicles are capable of regenerative braking, but the regenerative braking needs to ensure the safety requirements of the braking system. Therefore, it is necessary to study to evaluate the ability of regenerative braking to ensure safety and to be able to absorb regenerative braking force to optimize braking force. From the specification vehicle parameters, and with different speeds and braking strengths, it is possible to determine the regenerative braking force on the axle compared to the braking force required for each braking system designed strategy. The scenario of evaluation of the Nissan Leaf showed that at a speed of less than 20 km/h, the regenerative brake fully met the requirement of braking force by the braking system at the braking strength from 0.1g to 0.6g. When the speed is up to 40 km/h, the regenerative braking force is still able to meet the braking strengths of up to 0.5g and when it reaches the speed of 60 km/h, the braking strength at 0.4g is still met the requirement when used regenerative brake. The regenerative braking efficiency is tremendously high at small braking strengths, for example at 20 km/h and braking strength at 0.1g, regenerative braking can meet up to 1200% of the requirement of braking force. However, at high speeds, the regenerative braking force decreases, but at extremely high speeds up to 100 km/h and braking strength at 0.6g, the regenerative braking force still meets 40% of the requirement of braking force. Therefore, the friction brake only needs to meet 60% of the requirement of braking force leading to reducing the pressure on the friction brake system.
