REPAIR TENON OF STEAM TURBINE BLADE AISI 422 STAINLESS STEEL USING LASER 3D PRINTING METAL POWDER PROCESSAbstract
The purpose of this investigation was to study the tenon repairs of steam turbine blade using laser 3D powder fusion process by added AISI 422 stainless steel (SS) powder on a 422 SS used blade. The microstructures analysis, mechanical properties tests of base metal (BM) and printing layer in both single layer and multi-layer processes with various process parameters were analyzed and compared to find out the adequate laser 3D printing metal powder process parameters. In this study, tensile test, impact test and microhardness test were carried out to characterize the mechanical properties of both BM and printed metal layer. Experimental results showed the grain size of printing metal layer was smaller than that of BM either in the as- printed condition and the 700°C/2h tempered condition; these small grains also increased the hardness of printed metal layer. In the multi-layer laser printing condition, the results of tensile and impact test showed the printed metal layer after 700°C/2h tempering had higher tensile strength than the BM did, while both printed metal layer and BM possess approximately the same impact energy. Experimental results of mock-up trials showed that the repaired tenons, through multi-layer laser 3D printing process, can sustain higher tensile loads than the BM after pinning deformation
