NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF FOUR – POINT BENDING BEHAVIOR IN (GB/T700)/CFRP/(GB/T700) HYBRID LAMINATES USING HASHIN FAILURE CRITERIAAbstract
This study presents a numerical investigation of the four-point bending behavior of hybrid steel/carbon fiber reinforced polymer/steel (GB/T700)/CFRP/(GB/T700) hybrid laminates using the finite element method (FEM) in Abaqus. The objective is to evaluate the mechanical response and failure mechanisms of the hybrid structure under bending loads, considering only Hashin failure criteria. The composite layers are modeled using an anisotropic damage model based on Hashin failure initiation, followed by progressive stiffness degradation. The steel layers are simulated with an elasto-plastic model incorporating strain hardening. The analysis provides insights into stress distribution, failure initiation, and progressive damage within the laminate. Results indicate that fiber tensile and compressive failure dominate in high-stress regions, while matrix cracking occurs under shear and transverse loading. The load-displacement response and ultimate failure mode are examined to understand structural integrity and failure evolution. Numerical predictions highlight the effectiveness of FEM in capturing failure behavior in hybrid laminates. This study serves as a basis for future research on optimizing hybrid laminate designs
